Make it Happen
The 8.9 earthquake with hundreds of following aftershocks large enough to call them their own. The ravaging waters of the resulting tsunami. The possibility of another meltdown that could potentially be far worse than that of Chernobyl. And the fear, sorrow, and helplessness that comes with the severe loss of food, water, and any shelter long into our future.
Many of you have probably seen the aftermath of the earthquakes and tsunami that have struck down on Japan. You may have also seen the nuclear disaster that is unfolding before our eyes. But many will not see the terrible, dark future that lies ahead for the millions of people living there. After the initial impact of what has happened, the horrific images will fade, the yearn to help will have vanished, and the thought of not being able to do anything about it will have swallowed you. The sad thing is, is that all of this is true for any situation that is deemed a disaster, as well a many that should be. You may think I’m ranting, but ask yourself this: what have you done to help with our own two wars? What have you done to ease the suffering of millions upon millions in Africa and many other developing nations? What have you done to help at all? Our minds as a species have become infinitesimally confined to the comforts of our own homes and the idea that as long as our own wants and needs are met, all is well. When have you last tried to make a difference in someone else’s life other than your own?
The fact that individualistic happiness is all it take to satisfy billions of people is downright absurd. What if you were trapped under thousands of pounds of debris and couldn’t escape? What if you got swept out to the ocean by the intense currents resulting from a tsunami? What if you were covered from head to foot in radioactive chemicals you didn’t even know existed and passed them on to your family and you all died from some incurable cancer or disease never seen before?
I’m sure then you’d definitely feel you could be an individual and survive on your own. Would you not need as much help as you could get?
You would.
Millions of people will go without food and water, without a roof over their head, without a future tonight. They will starve, dehydrate, be crushed, swept away, or contaminated, and you’d never blink an eye. Without your help, all of this will become their reality much too fast.
This is where you come in. The reader, the bystander.
Just think: a simple shirt.
For yourself, for a friend or family member, or even to send to someone in need in Japan. For every shirt we sell, all the proceeds will be sent to Japan to aid their needs. Water, food, or a roof over their head. You can help someone in dire need right now.
Will you?
